Philips 2010 range Full HD 3D Ready TVs

Philips announces Full HD 3D TVs. Building on Philips’ unique Ambilight system, Philips will introduce Full HD 3D Ready TVs this summer - with the world’s first cinema proportioned Full HD 3D Cinema 21:9 TV launching late summer.

The 2010 9000 LED series and 8000 LED series TVs will also be Full HD 3D Ready. They feature the active 3D technology that allows the TV to deliver a 3D movie experience with the help of 3D glasses. More information on the Full HD 3D Cinema 21:9 TV will follow in the summer of 2010.

Active 3D technology

Active 3D technology uses a wireless transmitter which communicates between the TV and the active 3D glasses. It synchronizes the shutters of the active 3D glasses with the images on the screen. This shows the left and then the right image one after the other, bringing depth perception and a 3D experience.

3D upgrade pack

A 3D upgrade pack will be made available separately to the 3D Ready TVs, allowing those consumers already interested in watching 3D content to purchase the pack and to enjoy an 3D in the home. This will include two active 3D glasses and a wireless transmitter.

Active 3D glasses will also be available for individual sale so that you can buy as many glasses as you need for the whole family to enjoy the 3D experience together
The 3D upgrade pack is available for the Cinema 21:9, 32”, 40” and 46” 9000 series 3D ready TVs and the 37”, 40”, 46” and 52” 8000 series 3D Ready TVs launched in 2010.

Consumers and 3DTV

Similar to the growth of HD content and HD Ready TVs, Philips expects the interest in an in-home 3D experience to grow hand-in-hand with the availability of content. Just as there are a variety of ways for consumers to enjoy 2D content, the same will be true for 3D.

Initial signs of consumer demand are starting to show based on the popularity of 3D theatrical box office releases and initial broadcast offerings. This demand will increase slowly over the coming years.

Pricing

Prices has not yet been revealed but Philips says,

- “By offering a 3D upgrade pack alongside its Full HD 3D Ready range of TVs, Philips enables these consumers to experience 3D cinematic events in the home without having to pay a premium for a 3D TV set”.
